This flowing piece features the ancient technique of Granulation. Small grains of silver are hand applied and fused to a solid plat of silver. They are attached only at the point of contact. This is a technique that dates back to the Etruscans and has been perfected in traditional Balinese jewelry. Silver wire is cut into small bits and a torch applied so that the bits become spheres. The spheres are then sorted by size through a sifter. Once the granules are sorted, they are applied by hand to the piece being made.
Designer Michele Sonner named her collection Michou as a derivation of her childhood nickname mon petit chou. Her love of art, antiques and history drew her into jewelry design over 20 years ago, when she discovered a tiny collection of rings during a ski trip to the Swiss Alps. Michou married modern design with an ancient art form learned from experienced Balinese artisans. Today, her miniature sculptures, or what she likes to call “Art to Wear” are found in art galleries across the US and Canada. The Cascade Blue Tahoe collection was inspired by where she makes her home – in Lake Tahoe, California. She says of her collections “Each piece is ageless, filled with heart so that it actually becomes part of the woman who wears them.” We have to say, we agree. Perfect for every occassion, suitable for both day and night.
Sunlight streams through filtered trees. Dancing waters glisten on gleaming pebbles reflecting unexpected flashes of color. The beauty and tranquility of a mountain stream is captured in Michou’s Cascade Collection.
Larimar, Amazonite, Blue Topaz and Freshwater Pearl create the second group in the collection – the Cascade Tahoe Blue Collection.
