Style # 172031. Michou Layered Onyx Ribbon Dance Collection Long Ribbon Earring is surely something unique, because it features a gemstone we have not seen before…a layered black onyx, mother of pearl and quartz cut with a checkerboard faceting on the top. Black onyx as you have never seen it before with a midnight blue iridescence that reminds us of cats eye. So unusual!
This dramatic, yet comfortable earring is set in sterling silver and 22kt gold vermeil, and features the techniques of Filigree, Gold Vermeil and Pearlescent Satin Finish. At the top of the earring is a Raspberry Topaz set in a bezel setting. The ribbon curls around the top gemstones and gracefully tumbles down the earring to hold a marquis shaped dangle of layered onyx below. The ribbon is divided into links that move as you do. We love the length of this earring!
Filigree is a technique that allows fine pliable threads of metal to be curled, twisted and laid in a delicate lattice. Here, fine 999 silver is used as sterling silver is too stiff to achieve this look. The art of filigree was perfected in the Greek and Etruscan filigree of the 6th to 2rd centuries B.C. Filigree can be created by soldering wire to wire with no background support, or in this case, to a larger metal ribbon surface. Soldering together the dainty wire forms of filigree is truly a master’s art. Designer Michele Sonner describes her collections as Art to Wear…and we agree!
